RESEARCH

I completed all my research last week in order to achieve the best website I could that would be easy to use, interactive and informative.
In my research I made of a questionnaire which consisted of ten quantitative and five qualitative questions. I handed out this questionnaire to twenty Joseph chamberlain students, 9 of which were male and 10 of which were female both aged from 16-19.
The reason why I selected a mixed amount of boys and girls of a similar age group is because the website which I am creating is for a new rock band and teenagers tend to be the most popular market for this genre. Once I had collected this data I analysed it to ensure I could meet the target audiences’ requirements. I then started my secondary research. I collected this type of data over the internet by analysing three other rock band websites, I analysed:

special effects
typography
graphics
colour scheme
editing and sound
representation
anchorage

By using both primary and secondary research I will use the data to create the website. Within this week I have started to create the bare skeleton of my website. I have played around with both Adobe Dreamweaver & Photoshop. I will use Dreamweaver to create my website and display my information and I will use Adobe Photoshop to create/make images.I know need to design and create my navigation bar and take pictures of all the band members.

I will be exploring the music industry and the key aspects in relation to the ‘music act’ website. The website that I have been exploring is ‘www.coldplay.com’. This website has many graphics which are of an interactive and informative nature this makes the website look very professional. In addition, this website is very helpful and is good for any Coldplay fans or any new users to explore. The company that has designed the ‘www.coldplay.com’ the new bands new albums name is used as the focal point for all the features and the design of the whole website. This is done by creating interactive graphics which try to portray an old traditional style yet with a hint of modern day culture which is all about ‘Viva La Vida’ – the group’s new albums name.

GENRE AND CONVENTIONS

Different music groups have different music genres; the website for the band must reflect the genre of the band’s music. As the audience will expect to see images and styles which reflect that specific genre. ‘
‘Rock’ music is usually associated with Goth and evil beings therefore; the audience may expect to see some post modern graphics to portray the darkness. The colour scheme of the website will be most suited to be monochrome colours such as white, blacks and greys, as this will be best suited with the genre of the bands music. They also try to incorporate primary colours to cause some contrast on the website. This is evident on the Tokio Hotel ‘website. For example the music category of ‘Pop’, the audience may expect to see some animation/graphics as ‘Pop’ is generally aimed at a younger audience. The audience will also expect to see the primary colours incorporated somewhere within the website for example; the background, text, banner, graphics etc again this is aimed towards a younger audience. This is evident on ‘Girls aloud’ website. Finally, In the case of the ‘RnB’, the audience may expect to see some modern and high profile photography of the artist(s) as ‘RnB’ music is generally aimed at an more universal audience which could be consisting of people of all ages. The audience will expect the colour scheme of the website to be bright and bold colours, which help to create the harsh images of money and girls. Some of the colours that maybe used are gold’s and chocolate browns etc. This is evident on the ‘50cent’ website. In conclusion I have found that the way the website is portrayed gives a direct perception of what the band’s music and genre is.
